Jointly owned by both the City of Newcastle and Port Stephens Council, Newcastle Airport is a leader in the airport industry; with a progressive and dedicated focus on both social and environmental purpose, along with an enlightened approach to sustainable measures on reducing their environmental footprint.

As a billion-dollar (annual) contributor to the NSW economy and sharing ground and airspace with the Williamtown RAAF, SaberVox’s handling of Newcastle Airport’s data centre migration had to be approached with military precision.

Client’s Problem:

Newcastle Airport approached SaberVox to expedite a recent discovery from their new Head of IT that there were several holes in their existing infrastructure and set up. To propel their business with a best-practice approach, SaberVox was charged with creating off-site back up capabilities to ensure Newcastle Airport’s business continuity, should a failure occur.

Like all airports, Newcastle Airport has the potential for becoming a target for terrorist and cyber-terrorist activity, thus backing up their incredibly sensitive data was expedited.

Our Strategy:

Having met with the airport’s Head of IT, Michael, we were made aware of their current situation and hopes for quickly updating their current work-around solution.

SaberVox walked the client through several options and their varied priorities and began work on multiple concurrent projects.

Michael had direct contact with our team of Senior Engineers to discuss network design, planning and strategies; with all works triaged in order of importance.

Our Solution:

Firstly, a Microsoft 365 backup was crucial and was implemented as a first-line approach.

Using Veeam’s 365 backup, we placed their data into one of our Tier 3 Data Centres, using Dell’s leading EMC hardware. This successful 365 backup was completed within minutes, with all data backed up and automated off-site.

Next steps followed with backups to the remainder of Newcastle Airport’s infrastructure.

Both SaberVox and the client were aligned with the use of Veeam for backup solutions – thus, a simple set-up by adding the Cloud Connect licenses and pointing to one of our Data Repositories. Once again, this was a swift process, with setup and backup flowing securely across their existing internet link in under 10 minutes.

These easy, but essential steps are now paving the way for future growth and streamlining of the IT department and Newcastle Airport as a whole.
